Basler Fund

Twenty-five years ago, who would have foreseen 9/11 or the demise of Swissair? Who would have said that the 44th President of the USA would be an African American? No-one, for sure. There are some events that even we at EBP are unable to foresee. But our aim is to detect and take account of future trends at an early stage.

Future Foresight

By monitoring future possibilities we prepare ourselves for critical changes. We have prepared a trend report which sets out the underlying developments of the next twenty years in the areas of society, the economy, politics, technology and the environment. Our sun tool can be used to show the mutual interdependencies of these trends, giving us a picture of the contexts and enabling us to point out present and future opportunities and challenges.

We organise regular events – literary lunches, discussion groups and talks by renowned speakers. Our past contributors have included Prof. Lars-Erik Cederman, Prof. Johan Galtung, Dr. Beat Kappeler, Dr. Karlheinz Steinmüller, Prof. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker and Prof. Hans Küng.

Future working environments

Our working environment and the associated working methods are constantly changing. We can only be successful in the long term, as a company and as individuals, if our quality is up to standard and if there is demand for what we do. We must maintain our personal motivation, strengths and well-being.

In the context of the Basler Fund “Future Working Environments” Project we pose the question of how the working environments of the future will look, in general and here at EBP. The focus will be on both work-relevant developments – such as the structure of the workforce or electronic aids – and on the measures derived from these relating to personnel management, handling the flow of information and work–life balance.
