What do discarded banana skins, garden waste, slurry and manure have in common? They all contain versatile stored energy, which can be used for heat, electricity and fuel. Biomass energy is renewable and CO2 neutral, and is indispensable for future energy supplies. The association Biomasse Schweiz was founded in 2011 to promote the use of biomass (excluding wood) for energy, partly under the auspices of the EnergieSchweiz programme. The focus is on sustainable technologies, which are a substitute for fossil fuels, take the pressure off the environment and reduce the greenhouse effect. Ernst Basler + Partner runs the office for Biomasse Schweiz and is a member of the board together with major players in the sector, such as power plant planners and operators, and energy supply companies. Biomasse Schweiz carries out the following activities:

  • Maintaining its own website, circulating a newsletter and answering questions from the general public
  • Organising information and educational events for various target groups
  • Providing information at media events or by means of targeted specialist articles on the subject of biomass energy
  • Promoting cooperation with related organisations
  • Developing quality standards for biogas plants
