11.01.11 - Economic and ecological consequences of different cultures and cultivation systems.

The present study provides answers to the following questions: Which species and cultivation systems are be considered for energy crops in Switzerland? Which regions are appropriate, what yields can be expected? Which technologies are available for planting, cultivating and harvesting biomass cultures?

What does a microeconomic evaluation of biomass cultures reveal? On which political and legal frameworks do the cultivation of biomass cultures depend? What opportunities and risks are there for regional development? What effect does cultivation of energy crops have on the environment? What effects do biomass cultures have on the landscape? How are these changes perceived?

The study was discussed intensively and scrutinised by a support group. The study takes a broad and integrated view of the cultivation of biomass cultures and offers proposals on how the trend in Switzerland can be guided in the right direction.
