The Manabi province is a predominantly agricultural region with an important fish industry. Currently all organic waste from producers and processing plants in the sector is disposed of (into the sea) without being used. There is a great potential here, especially for the fish industry.

The aim of this project is to identify the potential for organic waste in Manabi and to develop an economically and ecologically sustainable utilisation concept which will be given concrete form in a feasibility study and a pilot plant.

The clients are firstly the REPIC platform (Renewable Energy Projects in International Cooperation) and secondly a cluster of companies lead by La Fabril, a company based in Ecuador which is one of the largest producers worldwide of biodiesel from palm oil.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with the CTU, a Swiss technology provider, and the Ecuadorian consultancy firms Pragma VI and Corsede.
