Martinsried Integrated Transport Concept

22.06.11 - The Free State of Bavaria, the city of Munich and the municipality of Planegg are extending metro line 6 to Martinsried. With the Max Planck Society and the Ludwig-Maximilian University, Martinsried-Großhadern is one of the most important locations for life sciences research in Europe.

The infrastructure of Martinsried is currently inadequate: the commercial infrastructure is inefficient, the transport system is confusing and the road system design is outdated, leading to conflicts of use. First-time local integration of the various institutional stakeholders and community organisations within an overall transport plan covering all the transport operators across municipal and city limits was a particular challenge. With the extension of metro line 6, 4,000 inhabitants, 11,000 jobs and 3,000 university places will then have a direct connection to Munich.

Benefits:

  • Private motorised transport: Development of Martinsried campus and metro stop, definition of the road hierarchy taking into account the urban development potential.
  • Stationary traffic: Parking space concept including P&R, with definition of the car park locations, infrastructure and management.
  • Local public transport: Future bus network with routes and stops. Planning of the transit stop for the metro on the campus.
  • Non-motorised traffic/cycles: Non-motorised traffic lanes and development of campus and metro stop.
  • Local presentations: Display and clarification of the work to the municipal council and public meeting.
