European Institutions are currently working on the reconfiguration of the foundations of the Trans-European Transport Network, to ensure its efficient contribution to reaching goals of the European Union. Due to the financial situation the long term planning and definition of a high-ranking European Core Network is an essential contingent.
Austria plays a crucial role in this Core Network. One of these core routes is the Baltic-Adriatic Axis, which poses a high ranking rail connection of Baltic ports and states over industrial regions and centres in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Austria down to the economic area of northern Italy and the Adriatic ports.
Ernst Basler + Partner in cooperation with RaumUmwelt GmbH, Vienna, worked on a report which showed the meaning of the BAA for the Core Network. The report shows how important and well founded the incorporation of the Baltic-Adriatic Axis into the future Core Network is.
The report was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Traffic, Innovation and Technology in cooperation with the Austrian regions Corinthia, Lower Austria, Styria and Vienna ant the ÖBB Infrastruktur AG. The making of the study was supported by Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Italy.
