City of Opfikon – urban development 2012+

The city of Opfikon is changing. Its constant population growth and attractive location in one of the most economically active areas of Switzerland mean both opportunities and challenges.

Working together with the city council, EBP have drawn up a set of strategic objectives and measures for the future development of Opfikon. Residents, the local workforce and the administration have made an active contribution to shaping the concept.

The urban development concept will provide both directional guidance and a specific work tool for Opfikon. The measures defined will contribute to reinforcing the city’s identity and quality of life. At the same time, Opfikon is being developed as an attractive business and employment location.

Three showcase projects form the cornerstone of the implementation measures. A new urban centre is being developed as a focal point with a distinctive identity, which will attract residents from various districts of the city. The individual green spaces around the Glatt river are being improved and united. A regular festival in the city is being established as a further way of reinforcing its identity. EBP has also provided support for the media and publicity work in connection with the concept.
