Project

Analysis of Geographic Information System Needs for the Canton of Schwyz

The current and expected future needs of the users of geographic information systems are ascertained on behalf of the Schwyz Office of Surveying and Geographic Information (AVG). The scope of the assignment includes drafting questionnaires, interviewing relevant users employed at cantonal and municipal offices, and drafting a report with findings and recommendations for action.

GIS user needs have changed significantly in recent years. While this development has been spurred by the passage of the Swiss Federal Act on Geoinformation and associated cantonal laws stipulating the provision of certain services, it has also been caused by advances in GIS technology that have come to place greater demands on cantonal service providers.

In the interest of keeping up with the latest developments, the Schwyz Office of Surveying and Geographic Information (AVG) wished to carry out a survey among cantonal and municipal workers who use such systems to gather information about current and expected future needs.

Working on behalf of the Canton of Schwyz, EBP carried out a needs analysis using a questionnaire and interviews with survey participants. The data were then evaluated and presented to the AVG in a special report.
