The Dolder Grand, Zürich

The Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich, which is over 100 years old, is being converted and comprehensively extended to create a high-end luxury hotel. EBP, as the structural engineers, assisted the team of architects from Foster & Partners from the initial idea through to implementation.

The Dolder Grand Hotel, which opened its doors in 1899, has been renovated on many occasions over the years and was completely converted and extended between 2002 and 2007. The core of the main building was removed, whilst the listed components (façade, Steinhalle, towers and six rooms) were retained.

The Foster & Partners project consisted of the conversion and refurbishment of the existing building, as well as the construction of two new wing-shaped room complexes, the new Ballroom, the Panorama Restaurant with Garden Patio as well as a completely new supply and infrastructure unit.

Preparing and implementing the demanding structural framework systems while taking into account the interfaces between the old/new build and the requirements for protecting the listed main building were a particular challenge.

The services provided by EBP covered all structural and civil engineering project phases from pre-project to implementation.
