Project

Improving Traffic Safety at the Limmatstrasse Blackspot

Economical and highly effective: working together with the City of Zurich’s Offices of Traffic Safety (DAV), Public Transport (VBZ) and Civil Engineering (TAZ), EBP drafts a measures concept, the implementation of which is expected to significantly reduce the accident risk at the Limmatstrasse blackspot in Zurich..

A disproportionately high number of accidents occur along Limmatstrasse between Limmatplatz and Fabrikstrasse. In recent years, a considerable number of people have sustained minor, severe and even fatal injuries.

In the interest of promoting greater traffic safety, the City of Zurich’s Offices of Traffic Safety (DAV), Public Transport (VBZ) and Civil Engineering (TAZ) commissioned EBP to conduct a study of traffic and traffic-related accidents in the immediate vicinity of the Limmatstrasse blackspot and to develop suitable measures to reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

The detailed analysis of the accident data indicated that most of the accidents and injuries involved collisions with tram cars. Measures designed to improve the situation were generated and their cost-effectiveness and anticipated degree of public acceptance (i.e. by motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and residents) were examined.

The result: a proposed solution whose implementation is expected to significantly reduce the accident risk at the Limmatstrasse blackspot. The project team appointed by the city accepted the proposal and is now planning its implementation.
