Drafting a concept for the new environmental programme by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in Bolivia

Drafting a concept for a new programme in the field of environmental management in Bolivian urban centres, concentrating on waste management, waste water treatment and air pollution.

An environmental management programme forms an integral part of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)’s National Strategy 2013-2016 for Bolivia. Air pollution, waste and waste water have an adverse impact on the environment and quality of life of the population, above all in the fast-growing urban centres in Bolivia.

In order to implement the activities within the existing programmes, the SDC instructed EBP to draw up a concept for a new programme for environmental management in Bolivian cities. The task was to realize a situation analysis of the current environmental conditions in the areas of waste management, waste water treatment and air pollution in Bolivia. The existing underlying conditions at political level, the existing, established programmes and strategies in the public and private sectors, and international cooperation were all covered in the analysis. Various possible courses of action for the SDC in Bolivia were produced, and some initial project ideas drawn up, on the basis of over 50 interviews with local associates.
