Project

Transition to electric buses in Bern

The city of Bern is aiming to complete a transition to an all-electric bus fleet.
After a successful pilot project in which an electric bus was deployed on the city’s bus line 17, electric buses were deployed in the framework of an initial project phase to service the city’s bus lines 19 and 21, and the deployment of electric buses for bus lines 10 and 28 is set to follow in the project’s second phase. EBP assisted the city’s transportation company, BERNMOBIL, when it came to launching the fleet’s electrification, particularly in matters relating to the charging infrastructure with opportunity chargers (fast charging pantographs) at terminal stops (450 kilowatt DC charging) and the charging stations at the Eiger Plaza bus garage (50-150 kilowatt DC charging). The scope of our assignment also included the installation of a new transformer station.
