Procedural support for GC submissions for the Rächtenwisen freight building at Zurich Airport

Within the context of a functional separation process, Zurich Airport AG is planning to build a new freight building. After completing a feasibility study in 2011, EBP has again supported its client by developing a procedure for selecting an architectural firm to assume the role of a designer and general contractor.

Zurich Airport AG is planning the construction of the new “Rächtenwisen Freight Building” in the eastern section of the airport site. EBP had already undertaken a commission in 2010 to 2011 to carry out a feasibility study for the building and to outline a number of solutions and project variants. The aim of the latest stage in the planning process was to select an architectural firm to assume the role of a designer and general contractor. The client decided against a classic architectural design competition in favor of a selective tendering procedure, according to which the prospective firms are selected on the basis of prequalification involving the submission of a project portfolio, details of the organization, task statements and price estimates. The aim was to find a suitable architectural firm or team of architects capable of realizing a project with demanding architectural, operational and economic aspects. EBP helped the client to manage the selection process.
EBP helped Zurich Airport AG to carry out a process for selecting an architectural firm to assume the role of a designer and general contractor. The scope of this assignment included:

  • Project definition; clarification of unresolved issues, specification of requirements and drafting of a functional specifications document
  • Management and organization of the entire selection process
  • Consulting services in connection with the finalization of the selection procedure
  • Organization and completion of the submission procedure
