EBP is commissioned by the Canton of Zürich to play a role in the development planning for the University District in the centre of Zurich. The assignment centres on the organisation and management of an urban development study of the area defined by the perimeter of the University.
In the framework of the Master Plan 2014, two urban development studies were commissioned by the Canton of Zurich to provide critical planning data for the future development of two adjacent, subject-related areas within the University District in the centre of Zurich. EBP assumed responsibility for organising and managing the urban development study for a part of the area defined by the perimeter of the university.
With an eye to the specified development goals and the conditions outlined in the Master Plan 2014, various interdisciplinary teams of architects, landscape architects and traffic planners were asked to develop a general urban development plan for the area..
The specific aim of the development study was to create a basis for subsequent planning and development procedures, including decision-making support for matters relating to landmark preservation and the organisation of well-calibrated architectural design competitions.
The development study was carried out in consultation with the participating cantonal agencies, the city of Zurich as well as the relevant representatives of the local university institutions (USZ, UZH and ETH).
