Bus and streetcar stop at Altstetterstrasse

EBP has examined the structural plan for the new bus-and-streetcar stop at Altstetterstrasse to determine whether it will suffice to accommodate anticipated commuter and pedestrian flows. The firm has also issued recommendations on the placement of the site’s structural features.

Plans have been submitted for a new bus and streetcar stop at Altstetterstrasse in Zurich. A large number of commuters are expected to use the stop. Moreover, the new commuter stop is located on one of the main access routes to the Altstetten railway station.

EBP has examined the structural plan for the new commuter stop with the help of various methods of structural analysis. The firm has also used commuter-demand matrices available in in the cantonal transport register to arrive at a reliable assessment of the commuter and pedestrian volumes that can be expected to have an impact on the quality of the pedestrian areas at the new commuter stop. In addition to normal scenarios based on on-time bus and streetcar scheduling, worst-case scenarios in which commuter volumes overlap unfavorably are also considered.

EBP also developed a model of commuter and pedestrian trajectories in the context of calculating the relevant space needs in light of overall traffic volumes. Moreover, the analysis takes account of circulation space, pedestrian transition areas and green-light cycles.

The analysis indicates that the planned commuter stop will be able to handle the projected flow of pedestrians and commuters. Recommendations have also been submitted for improving the placement of ticket machines, benches and other commuter-stop features.
