In the framework of its development strategy for its Hönggerberg Campus, ETH Zurich is planning to build a new laboratory and office building with a total floor space of around 172,225 square feet to house its Department of Physics. Around two-thirds of the floor space in the structure, which is referred to as the HPQ Building, is to accommodate various laboratories. The building will also include office space, classroom space, a cafeteria and casual meeting venues. A design competition was organized as a means of securing an appropriate planning and design proposal and general planning team, i.e. a proposal that would meet the demanding architectural and operational specifications of the client, including specifications relating to sustainability and the ability to cater for cutting-edge research in the field of physics with laboratories and complex technology platforms.
Working on behalf of the client, EBP assumed responsibility for managing the planning and design competition. This work included the following tasks:
- Drafting of a competition program with a detailed space allocation plan
- Organization and execution of preliminary reviews
- Organization and moderation of jury proceedings
- Drafting of the jury report
- Organization of the exhibition
