Environmental impacts of Swiss production and consumption

Working on behalf of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment, we updated Switzerland’s environmental footprints, which measure the global environmental impact of Swiss consumption. To calculate the environmental footprints, we used a new method that connects an environmentally extended input-output model with life cycle assessment. Our study examines the relative significance of consumption categories such as food, housing, and mobility. It also indicates whether the lion’s share of consumption-related environmental impacts takes place abroad.
