Fricktal set to become an Energy Region

What are the potential energy sources in Fricktal? And what is the region’s position today? In a study, EBP determined the current energy production, the present-day energy consumption and the most significant areas of potential for the region. Building on this, significant measures were developed to enable Fricktal to become an Energy Region in future.

The region of Fricktal has the vision of becoming an Energy Region. An important step towards achieving this objective is to analyse the current consumption of electricity and heat , and to determine the potential for producing energy from renewable sources. In a study, EBP investigated the current energy situation in the region and modelled the energy potential in the areas of biomass, wind, sun and geothermal energy, using GIS maps. They then formulated measures for making the most of this potential and evaluated them in a workshop with local authority representatives.

The result? In the Fricktal region there is great potential for solar electricity production and heat production from timber. In the area of energy efficiency, the renovation of old buildings is an important measure that can substantially reduce energy consumption. If all this potential is adopted by 2030, this could result in a regional added value of CHF 20 million per annum.

The results of this study will now enable Fricktal to concentrate on making the most of the available potential energy sources. In so doing it is important to involve and work with the important local players.
