Incentivizing photovoltaics in Switzerland

Photovoltaic systems are expected to play a major role in the future of Switzerland’s power production. In an attempt to promote the installation of such systems, the Swiss government has introduced incentives in the form of one-time grants and the option of joining power-sharing associations whose members are allowed to use self-generated power. Working on behalf of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), we evaluated the impact of these two incentivization instruments for the period from 2018 to 2020. We were then able to use our findings to formulate recommendations for optimizing the federal government’s promotional role.
