New security control building (SCB)

In the middle of Zurich Airport, a modern, central security control building is being built. In close cooperation with the project manager, EBP are planning a structural framework designed to take current and future security aspects into account

In this project, security control for departing passengers will be newly positioned at the entrance to the airside centre. This site, between the check-in zones for Terminals 1 and 2, is ideal, since the area can be accessed from both check-in zones, which are located on different levels of the building: E2 in Terminal 2 and E1 in Terminal 1. The four security control levels E0, E1, E2 and E3 are connected by escalator systems. Access to the airside centre is through a central entrance to the transit zone on both levels E1 and E2 (airport area not open to the public).

One key challenge is the building design, because the structure is surrounded on all sides by existing buildings, which must be partly underpinned. The project must also be realised while airline passenger operations continue as normal. EBP handled the project from the pre-project stage up to and including execution.
