Given the lack of appropriate criteria for rating the supply and quality of the network of federal roads in Switzerland, we developed a method that will enable the Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) to continuously rate any given sections of its federal roadways. The method is based on various key indicators, such as the average annual number of hours lost by drivers in a particular section of roadway due to congestion. The rating results are then represented on color-coded roadway maps.
- Development of a set of criteria by which to assess quality based on the very latest data
- Ascertainment of the criteria and introduction of a method to assess the achievement of target states
- Drafting of target-state recommendations for each indicator to establish a basis for assessing the quality of any given section of federal roadway
- Testing of the method using a pilot application for the years 2014, 2017 and 2019
