Registration and Timekeeping System for the Patrouille des Glaciers

The Patrouille des Glaciers relies on cutting-edge timekeeping technology from race result AG and EBP.

The Patrouille des Glaciers is one of the most challenging team competitions in the world. Every two years, around 5,000 competitors participate in this international ski mountaineering race, which is organised by the Swiss Army and includes both military and civilian teams.

Together with race result AG, EBP has been commissioned by the organisers to provide the registration and timekeeping system for the competition in 2016, with a service provision option for the year 2018. A multi-language web application is available to handle the registration and fee-collection procedure. The application can be configured to accommodate virtually any imaginable registration conditions and accepts all established methods of payment.

Before the race, all participants will be outfitted with cutting-edge transponders that do not interfere with avalanche transceivers or beacons.

Altogether, we will install 19 interval timers and digital displays along the famous Verbier–Arolla–Zermatt route. All measured times will be transmitted to the competition organisers in real-time, enabling them to keep track of the progress of the race at all times. The system will therefore also make an important contribution to the safety and security of the competitors.

Thanks to the sophisticated means of communication between the interval timers, transponders and headquarter equipment, the team rankings will be available immediately after the conclusion of the competition.
