Residential and commercial development project in Regensdorf

At the beginning of 2017, the Marazzi & Paul architectural firm won a design competition to oversee the planning and construction of a mixed residential and commercial building at a site near the Regensdorf bus-and-train station. The aim of the project is to provide low-cost housing and low-cost retail, commercial and office space. EBP has been commissioned by the architectural firm to support the planning and realization of the building’s façade.

The building site is directly adjacent to the Regensdorf bus-and-train station. This means that the facade will need to meet more demanding fire-safety and soundproofing specifications. In the context of planning the façade, much emphasis is also to be placed on preventing heat-island effects. These specifications are the reason why the planning work is being carried out in close consultation with our building-physics specialist.

The ground floor is to be outfitted with room-sized window casements that will enable the installation of large mullion windows while at the same time accommodating the building-physics specifications. The residential apartments on the upper levels are also to be outfitted with room-sized windows, which can be opened entirely to facilitate cleaning, and balustrades to protect against falls. The solid part of the façade consists largely of an exterior insulation and finishing system (EIFS) with an outer surface of brick veneer. Exterior Venetian blinds will be installed on the top levels and awnings on the ground level to protect against direct sunlight.
