Site development in Ziegelbrücke (Utilization Concept, Test Planning, Master Plan)

In keeping with cantonal development priorities, the approximately 75-acre Jenny site in Ziegelbrücke in the Canton of Glarus is to undergo upscale development consistent with exacting sustainability standards. In addition to helping the property owners draft a utilization concept, EBP organized and managed the test planning procedures with four teams and used the test planning results to draft the master plan for the entire site. This master plan provides the property owners and the relevant public agencies a basis for further planning.

Current state at the Jenny site

The site of the Fritz + Caspar Jenny Company in Ziegelbrücke and Niederurnen is currently the largest contiguous development site in the Canton of Glarus. The Jenny industrialist family had maintained textile operations at the site for more than 180 years. The comprehensive conversion of the former factory grounds opens a new chapter in the history of the site.

Site development with master plan

The conversion and further development of the Jenny site is a multi-generation project. The purpose of the master plan is to enable orderly, upscale and environmentally sustainable development throughout the next several years.

The reputation of the Jenny site already extends well beyond the region. Moreover, given that it is home to the Carlsberg Supply Company and Loft Z25 in the former spinning mill, and is adjacent to the Glarus Cantonal Vocational School, it makes an important contribution to the economic and social vitality of the local community. The site’s sheer size, ease of transportation access, excellent location and historical setting give it unique development potential.
