Street noise in the Canton of Zurich

The Noise Abatement department of the Canton of Zurich (Fachstelle Lärmschutz – FALS) is responsible for the renovation of the national and state roads with a view to noise abatement outside the cities of Zurich and Winterthur.

Together with FALS, EBP has developed a methodology for calculating a noise pollution register. The method has been refined on an ongoing basis thanks to continually improving geodata for the Canton of Zurich and the high-resolution DTM-AV terrain model by Swisstopo. The geodata are prepared so that they are suitable for calculating the noise exposure of over 130,000 buildings using the CadnaA noise calculation software.

The street noise pollution register, updated periodically, provides a basis for determining the renovation requirement and the forecast costs. It also provides the underlying data for planning detailed renovation projects.
