Study of disaster risk reduction in Serbia

The Morava River catchment area in Serbia is regularly hit by floods and landslides. After the severe flood disasters of 2014, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) agreed to support the Serbian Public Investment Management Office with its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Project (MDRRP) in the cities of Užice and Paráćin. Working on behalf of the SECO, we first evaluated the progress and results of the MDRRP to establish a basis for a current-needs analysis and the conceptualization of a corresponding follow-up project.

Our services

  • Assessment of the progress made by the MDRRP towards its goal; documentation of lessons learned
  • Conducting of interviews with Serbian experts on location in Kraljevo with the assistance of a Serbian partner
  • Conceptualization of a follow-up project focusing on disaster-risk management
  • Drafting of a comprehensive project proposal, including project goals, expected results, specific project-organization and financing recommendations, and an assessment of the possible risks and corresponding risk-mitigation measures
