Project

Zurich Airport C500 railway terminal / Plaza

At Zurich Airport the construction of a railway terminal has created a new landside hub for airline passengers and regional traffic. The ambitious civil engineering project is crowned with a glazed cable structure.

Landside, the project is a central feature for all airport users. It links the rail and bus stations, check-in 3, shopping areas and multi-storey car parks B & C with the terminals.

The project involves a number of technically demanding elements, such as the wide spanned, partly pretensioned reinforced concrete floors with large curved openings, the underpinning of the neighbouring buildings and the filigree cable structure for the skylight.

One particular challenge was realising the conversions and new builds within the shortest possible construction time while rail and bus operations carried on as normal.
