Climate change is one of the most important concerns facing the world today. In December 2015, representatives from 195 countries met at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris and signed the Paris Agreement. But now that an agreement has been signed, what instruments can be used to efficiently and effectively achieve the stated goals?

At EBP, we have been planning and realizing climate-protection instruments in Switzerland and around the world for many years. This work has centered on the provision of consulting services and support to organizations, cities, cantons, and governments to help them reach their carbon-neutrality goals.

With its newly revised Carbon Emissions Act, Switzerland has taken another important step toward reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The act builds on established climate-protection instruments that place obligations on corporations and private citizens.

We consult our clients in Switzerland with regard to the following climate-protection instruments and their implementation:

  • Swiss Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)
  • Target agreements on the reimbursement of CO2 fees
  • Development, validation and verification of compensation projects (emissions from imported fuel)
  • Emissions regulations for passenger vehicles

At an international level, we advise institutions regarding:

  • Expansion of nationally determined contributions (NDCs)
  • Setting more ambitious targets
  • Access to financing for climate-protection and adaptation measures
