Categorization of plant protection product entries

Plant protection products (PPPs) pose a threat to our aquatic ecosystems. Within the framework of the National Surface Water Quality Monitoring Program (NAWA), the cantons and the federal government examine various bodies of water to detect PPP using 3.5-day composite samples. We combined this data with precipitation and discharge data to categorize different entry types of the PPP. The aim of the analysis was to identify factors that lead to the measured peak concentrations of PPP in the bodies of water.

Our services

  • Characterizing the ten examined catchments according to land use, precipitation reaction and discharge response
  • Adapting and applying a method developed by the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (EAWAG) to distinguish between four entry types with different precipitation dependencies
  • Calculating active substance loads and interpreting the results; searching for entry type patterns and assessing the applied method
  • Developing a reproducible R-code for the repetition or extension of the analysis
