Making our food systems more sustainable (Resource efficiency)

We investigate the contribution that agriculture, processers, retailers, restaurant operators and consumers can make to sustainable nutrition. Using various assessment approaches, we identify the major levers in the value chain and which measures have the greatest impact. We use modeling to represent various change scenarios.

We help public authorities, trade associations and private companies to navigate our increasingly complex food systems while also taking account of their individual concerns. We consider entire food systems in our analyses and derive specific and effective measures.

We offer the following services:

  • Sustainability consulting for restaurant operators, food processors, producer associations and government agencies
  • Drafting of life-cycle assessments for specific foods and menus
  • Development of individually tailored measures
  • Analysis and modeling of various sustainability issues, especially climate protection, the use and effect of pesticides and biodiversity protection
  • Development of basic research projects
  • Management of participative processes involving the relevant stakeholders
