EBP actively supports the city of Kocani in eastern Macedonia with the planning, engineering, tendering and implementation of new wastewater infrastructure including a wastewater treatment plant for 65’000 Population Equivalent (PE) and provides corporate development support for the water utility.
Switzerland is supporting Macedonia's transition to an inclusive social market economy as part of the country’s European integration. A key element is the support of reform processes relating to water management. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is co-financing the Kocani Wastewater Treatment Project with a grant of about CHF 20 million.
EBP supports this important infrastructure project with project planning, preliminary and final design, tendering, contracting, construction supervision, commissioning and putting into operation of a new Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) for 65’000 Population Equivalents, the construction of a sewage collector (12 kilometre length, 300 – 630 millimetre diameter) and the purchase of equipment for the operation and maintenance of the sewage infrastructure.
In addition, EBP strengthens the institutional and technical capacity of the Public Utility by the joint development and implementation of a Corporate Development Program, including business and investment planning, the upgrade of the computerized financial management system, the implementation of a Network Information System (NIS) as well as public awareness rising and customer relation measures.
On national level EBP fosters the Policy Dialogue focussing on wastewater performance monitoring and the implementation of wastewater related service agreements with industrial customers.
