Decommissioning of Gas Networks Fundamentals

Many suppliers of gas are currently working on long-term plans to decommission their gas networks. Given a general lack of experience in decommissioning in the industry, we have launched a research project aimed at developing a set of practical decommissioning guidelines. Using real-world networks as a reference, we anticipate the necessary steps, estimate the costs associated with various options, and outline the related public-relations strategies. These fundamentals will enable us to draw up recommendations for suppliers and municipalities as they approach their decommissioning tasks.

Our services

  • Identification and description of the technical options for decommissioning
  • Identifying and surveying the relevant cost categories
  • Specification of the decommissioning options for two district gas networks
  • Estimating the costs of the decommissioning options
  • Surveying gas customer attitudes and fears in conjunction with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW)
  • Designing effective public relations strategies based on our survey with the FHNW
  • Deriving recommendations for gas suppliers, cities and municipalities
