Restoration of the Kempt River

Within the the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) capacity expansion project connecting the cities of Zurich and Winterthur,  the ecological restoration plan for an approximately 800-meter stretch of the Kempt River was developed. The project serves as an ecological compensatory measure for the railway expansion project. The restoration includes the recovery of unrestricted fish passage, terrestrial and aquatic habitat expansion, and the promotion of a self-sustained natural morphology throughout the river. The project improves the overall diversity of structures and habitats.
