Hazard analysis, Liechtenstein

What are the disasters and emergencies relevant to Liechtenstein? And what risks do they present for the Principality?

There has been no event relevant to civil protection in Liechtenstein for around 80 years, although disasters and emergencies cannot be ruled out in the principality. What are the relevant events for which the organisations and administrative departments responsible for safety should prepare?

Under the leadership of the Liechtenstein Department for Civil Protection (ABS), a core team supported by EBP carried out a risk analysis. It defined 28 disasters and emergencies relevant to Liechtenstein, specified a reference scenario for each event, assessed the risk and drew up a fact sheet for each threat. Finally, the central findings were summarised and recommendations made for further action.

The Liechtenstein risk analysis provides a plan to be used as a basis for preparing the Principality for special or extraordinary situations in the area of civil protection. It enables the ABS to prepare for such situations by

  • showing and analysing the current risk situation in the Principality and
  • offering a substantiated, transparent and comprehensible basis for future safety-related decisions.

All the work was undertaken in close cooperation with the top management of the Principality.
