Expert review of the Bruggwald, Galgentobel and Sturzenegg Tunnels refurbishment project

Working on behalf of Swiss Southeastern Railway (SOB), EBP has completed a comprehensive statutory review of the Bruggwald, Galgentobel and Sturzenegg Tunnels refurbishment project. The review was completed in accordance with the construction engineering guidelines issued by the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (FOT) to govern the work of independent railway auditing agencies.

The aim of the comprehensive refurbishment of the more than 100-year-old SOB tunnels is to renew the vaults, tunnel floors and drainage systems in all of the tunnels while at the same time ensuring compliance with all clearance specifications. The scope of the project includes the renewal of the substructure and track superstructure in the tunnels and in the area of the tunnel portals, with a slab-track construction being used in the Bruggwald Tunnel and a ballasted-track construction being used in the Galgentobel and Sturzenegg Tunnels.

Working in close consultation with the client, EBP carried out the statutory review of the project. The result will help to ensure structural and operational optimization, as well as compliance with all applicable requirements, while at the same time providing a complete and consistent dossier for the planning approval procedure.
